The United Nations is an intergovernmental international organization that aims to cooperate on international law, economic development, security, social issues, and human rights. It was founded on October 24, 1945, in San Francisco, California, USA, with 51 member states. Today marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, which has 193 member states as of 2024. In the more than sixty years since Mongolia joined the United Nations (UN) in 1961, the relationship between the UN and Mongolia has been strengthened and a mutually beneficial partnership has been developed. Following the successful implementation of the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) in Mongolia in 2017-2022, in 2023, the UN jointly adopted the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (SDCF) for Mongolia for 2023-2027, marking a new phase of cooperation between the Government of Mongolia and the UN. The SDCF is a strategic initiative of the international community to implement Mongolia's long-term development policy, Vision 2050, and the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. It is a document closely aligned with the country's national development programs aimed at implementing its commitments. 24 UN system organizations, both resident and non-resident, are participating in the implementation of this SDG and are working to contribute to the sustainable and inclusive development of Mongolia within the framework of the following strategic priorities:
